The difference is where they come from: templates your organisation locks centrally. The event manager fills in what varies, and the governed structure is not hers to alter.

She opens the one template her desk is approved to run.
Client Dinner. Approval routing, the registration fields and the legal footer arrive with it and are not hers to alter.
Committed. The structure. What is left to her is the name, the dates and the venue.
Naming it fixes every deadline that follows.
13 to 14 October, The Landmark. The record is open, and the date is the point the rest of the build now counts back from.

The agenda turns two days into hours that need filling.
Sessions placed in rooms across three tracks. Every block is a slot with something expected to stand in it.
Committed. Nine sessions. Four of them cannot run without a named speaker.
Setting a speaker live is a promise made in public.
Five confirmed against the sessions that needed them. The line up now exists as something the event can show.
Committed. Five names. There is finally something worth publishing.
The site publishes what the build already contains.
Title, dates and venue come off the record. The agenda and the speaker collection are placed as modules, not written again.
Committed. A public page. Registration can open.
The invitation can only say what is already true.
Merge fields read the name, the schedule and the location off the record, so the promise in the email and the promise on the site are the same promise.
Committed. 43 guests now expect this event on that date.
The app is switched on page by page, not built.
Attendees, chats, live wall, Q and A, live polls. Each page reads a module made earlier in this flow, so nothing is entered a second time.
Committed. What every attendee will be holding in the room.
The attendee opens the same record she started.
Their agenda, the speaker they are about to hear, the poll running in the room, the wall afterwards. None of it a separate build.
Committed. Every promise above, kept from one event record.
One event, decided once.
Each block on the published page is a commitment made earlier in the flow. What began as a template is what went live, and the governed parts were never in question.
Nine decisions, each one inherited by the next. Nothing was built twice.
The basics hold without being watched, so nothing later has to carry their weight.
